Nicola Coughlan, the Irish star of "Bridgerton" and "Derry Girls," is in the running to be cast as the next Bond girl, industry experts say.

Coughlan, from Co Galway, is hotly tipped to land the iconic role, according to recent analysis from Gambling.com.

James Leyfield, a betting expert with Gambling.com, says that Coughan's career "continues to go from strength to strength."

He commented: "The Irish actress rose to prominence in comedy series 'Derry Girls,' but Netflix megahit 'Bridgerton' has put her firmly on the showbiz map.

"The latest series mainly focused on Coughlan's character Penelope Bridgerton, and she has essentially become the main star of the series thanks to her alter-ego, gossip columnist Lady Whistledown.

"Coughlan is also no stranger to the big screen having appeared in last year's 'Barbie' movie, and she would be a shrewd signing by Bond bosses.

"The star is +175 to add a Bond film to her film credits."

Since Daniel Craig ended his 15-year run as Bond in 2021 with “No Time to Die,” there has been plenty of speculation over who will be the next 007. (British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has reportedly been offered the role.)

As fans continue to speculate who the new Bond might be, the discussion surrounding the next Bond girl is also heating up.

While Coughlan nears the top of the prediction list, it's Sydney Sweeney who has emerged as the favorite.

"Sydney Sweeney has been in contention for a while, but the star's price has now been cut to +150," Leyfield said.

"Best known for appearing in the likes of HBO drama series 'Euphoria' and 'The White Lotus,' as well as 'The Handmaid's Tale,' the actress is now a wanted woman in Hollywood.

"She has been racking up the film credits in recent years, including Marvel movie 'Madame Web' and romantic-comedy 'Anyone but You,' and it wouldn't be a surprise if she added the next Bond movie to her ever-growing career.

According to Leyfield, other actresses in the running include Jodie Comer, Kaya Scodelario, Michelle Keegan, and Dua Lipa, among others.
