After his concert at Malahide Castle on Saturday night, Prince tweeted: "Dublin, we made history."

In an interview before the concert with Barry Egan of the Sunday Independent, the pop/funk legend said he can’t wait to play “the castle in Malahide.”

"I am going to give something special to Ireland at that show. I'll play for eight hours straight in Dublin, if they don't have a curfew."

Prince proved to be a quirky, funny interview for Egan. His purple highness rarely speaks to the media, so it was cool to see him talking about his love of tea – “English breakfast tea. Do they have Irish breakfast tea?" – and his surprise to discover that, indeed, a thing called Barry’s Irish tea exists.

"Your tea? You have a tea? Would you like a tea?" he asks his inquisitor.

Though he hasn’t always joked about his Irish nemesis Sinead O’Connor – her first worldwide hit, “Nothing Compares 2U” is actually a Prince-written song – he seemed to be in a jovial mood about her with Egan.

"People are always asking me what I think of Sinead O'Connor's song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U,” Prince laughed.

He wasn’t always so mild-mannered about the Irish star – in fact, he never wanted her to cover his song as he intended it for another singer, and when they met at his house to discuss their issues, “he started to give out to me for swearing in interviews. When I told him to go f**k himself he got very upset and became quite threatening, physically. I ended up having to escape. He can pack a punch,” O’Connor once said.

But that was then and this was now. He calls Bono “a friend,” and when asked about Van Morrison, he replied, "I liked one of his songs I heard when I was younger. It had guitars in it. It was in a band?"   Gotta love this guy!

When Egan inquired if Prince has ever read Irish poets like Yeats or Oscar Wilde, Prince offered, “There is still time.”
