You may be familiar with her famous Irish husband Daniel Day-Lewis, but now it's time to get to know Rebecca Miller: a sought-after screen legend in her own right.
Day-Lewis' longterm love is a highly regarded novelist, screen writer, and director - which is hardly surprising given her lineage.
Among Miller's critically acclaimed penned works are "Maggie's Plan", "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee", and "The Ballad of Jack and Rose".
For 2015’s "Maggie's Plan", Miller’s protagonist is played by none other than Greta Gerwig. Gerwig herself is nominated two Oscars at this year’s ceremony: Best Screenplay and Best Achievement in Directing.
Miller also had a short-lived acting career, and previously studied painting and sculpting at Yale University.
The Connecticut native met her future husband on the set of “The Crucible”, the 1996 film adaptation of the synonymous play.
“The Crucible” was written and later directed by Miller’s father, the legendary playwright Arthur Miller.
The Pulitzer-prize winning literary talent, who died in 2005, is regarded as one of the greatest American playwrights and essayists of all time. His most notable works include “Death of a Salesman” and “A View from the Bridge”.
As a prominent public figure in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, Miller famously left his childhood sweetheart and married socialite-cum-screen star Marilyn Monroe (1956-1961) before meeting and marrying Rebecca’s mother, the photographer Inge Morath in 1962.
During his prolific career, Miller wrote no less than 37 stage plays - not counting his many radio plays, screenplays, and works of both fiction and non-fiction. He was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1979 and received the Four Freedom Award for Freedom of Speech in 1993.
Rebecca Miller and Day-Lewis currently divide their time between their homes in New York City and Annamore, County Wicklow. They have two sons, Ronan Cal-Day Lewis (born 1998) and Cashel Blake Day-Lewis (born 2002).
Like his mother, Ronan is currently enrolled in Yale. He is a keen filmmaker and artist. Meanwhile, Cashel is an aspiring musician.
Day-Lewis also has a 22-year-old son, Gabriel Kane pictured below, from his earlier relationship with French actress Isabelle Adjani.
