Irish Olympian Rhasidat Adeleke and pop star Rihanna were positively giddy when they finally met in person on Wednesday night, September 18 while in London.

“Fan girl moment meeting Rihanna,” Rhasidat gushed in an Instagram post on Wednesday night sharing photos and a clip from Rihanna's Fenty Hair event in London.

“Such an inspiration & forever breaking barriers in the industry," the Tallaght track star said of Rihanna.

“My younger self would’ve never thought that Rihanna would be following me & my journey!”

In a clip of the two excitedly meeting each other, Rihanna tells Rhasidat: "Are you kidding me? I follow you!"

In an Instagram story, Rhasidat described Rihanna as "a real OG" who had been keeping up with her since 2022.

"Pinch me moment!" Rhasidat added.

Rhasidat's meeting with Rihanna comes not long after the Dublin native had a strong showing at her first Olympics earlier this summer in Paris. She missed an Olympic medal by less than a second in the Women's 400m event and was part of the Irish team who landed in an agonizing fourth place in the Women's 4x 400m relay.

While she doesn't have any Olympic medals - yet - Rhasidat brought home a Bronze in this year's World Athletics Relays, as well as a Gold and two Silvers at the European Championships this summer.

Rhasiat holds seven individual Irish national records and as part of a relay team, she contributed to two additional national records. She's also the first Irish woman to break the 50-second barrier in the 400 meters.

Last year, Rhasidat announced that she would be foregoing her final year of eligibility at the University of Texas in the US to become a professional athlete with Nike.

Despite her many successes, Rhasidat has not been spared from vile racist abuse. When the trolling became apparent, her fans, including Taoiseach Simon Harris, flocked to express their support.
