The RTÉ Choice Music Prize 2023 shortlists include nods to Irish mainstays like Hozier, Niall Horan, and Lankum, as well as newcomers Cian Ducrot and Jazzy.
The shortlist for the 2023 Irish Song of the Year, was announced earlier today, January 12, on RTÉ 2FM’s Tracy Clifford Show.
Ten Irish songs from performers old and new made the shortlist, which the public can vote on online until midnight on February 18.
The winner of the Irish Song of the Year prize will be announced by Tracy Clifford on March 7 on a special Song of the Year radio show on 2FM that afternoon ahead of the live event.
Previously announced were the 2023 shortlists for Irish Album of the Year, Irish Artist of the Year, and Breakthrough Irish Artist of the Year.
The Irish Album of the Year Award will be chosen by a panel of 11 Irish music media professionals and industry experts, with the winner scooping a €10,000 grand prize.
The Irish Artist of the Year and Irish Breakthrough Artist of the Year winners will also be chosen by a panel of experts.
All shortlisted acts will receive a specially commissioned award.
All RTÉ Choice Music Prize winners will be announced on March 7, with the winners of Irish Album of the Year and Irish Breakthrough Artist awards named at a live show in Vicar Street. The winner of Irish Song of the Year will be announced on RTÉ 2FM earlier in the day.
Later in February, the RTÉ Choice Music Prize will announce the winner of its Classic Irish Album prize, which celebrates the cultural and artistic impact of a body of work by an Irish artist, band or collective that was released to the general public as an album at least 25 years prior to the year for which it is being awarded.
Last year, Sinéad O'Connor won the inaugural Classic Irish Album prize for her second album "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got."
Adam Fogarty, Head of Music at RTÉ 2FM, said the station was "delighted" to continue its partnership with the RTÉ Choice Irish Music Prize, describing the event as "an important annual event in the wider Irish music landscape."
"We’re delighted to be able to continue to celebrate all that is great about Irish music and Irish artists," Fogarty said in a statement.
"The inclusion of the Irish Artist of the Year, Irish Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and Classic Irish Album categories for the second year running, coupled with the longstanding Irish Song of the Year and the preeminent Irish Album of the Year prizes allow us to more broadly represent the incredible past, present and exciting future of Irish music."
