Shane MacGowan, the Pogues frontman who has been hospitalized since the summer, received a warm visit from Irish singer-songwriter Imelda May over the weekend.

"Shane is so happy to see Imelda!" MacGowan's wife Victoria Mary Clarke said on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday, November 19.

Clarke shared a photo of May sweetly pressing her cheek to MacGowan's forehead in his hospital bed.

In her own post on X, May said: “My darlin’ Shane!

"So good to see you today."

She added "best kisser" with a smiling winky face emoji.

MacGowan and May have been pals for a number of years. Back in 2018, she was on hand for MacGowan's big 60th birthday celebrations.

Afterward, May acknowledged that she and the other performers were "nervous to do his amazing songs justice."

Shane MacGowans 60th celebration gig was one special night. The love in the room for Shane was immense and the support for each of us performing was overwhelming. (We were all nervous to do his amazing songs justice) https://t.co/yqnnUVeGc9 pic.twitter.com/WsosDSam1F

In December 2022, however, May's rendition of the Pogues' classic "Fairytale of New York" with Glen Hansard on RTÉ's "The Late Late Show" was met with some criticism.

May visited MacGowan just two days after Clarke said on X that Shane was "feeling much better today!"

Clarke added: "I am so grateful to everyone who is willing him to get home for the Christmas!"
