Ireland’s premier sports star, Brian O’Driscoll, and Irish actress, Amy Huberman, were married at a 2 p.m. ceremony at St. Joseph’s Church, Mohill, in County Leitrim.
Brian arrived 25 minutes early to the Church, greeting his guests who arrived by bus.
The groom decided not to have a best man as his best friend and longtime roommate died in 2008. Instead he had Donovan Rossi, Damien O'Donoghue and Ciaran Scally.
Arriving in style and fashionable late, Amy stepped out of her Rolls Royce 20 minutes late for the ceremony. Her ivory, white strapless gown was designed by Stephanie Allin. She had four bridesmaids, a flower girl and a pageboy.
Celebrations this evening will take place on the exclusive 300 acre Lough Rynn estate. Well known Dublin bands the Camembert Quartet, The Coronas and the Bogus Brothers will provide the entertainment.
Earlier this week Brian was spotted dodging last minute preparations, O’Driscoll was spotted playing a round of golf with some close friends while Huberman prepared herself for the biggest day of her life.
Mohill residents were out in force preparing their town for an influx of paparazzi.
However the decision by the police to close the roads around St Joseph’s Church in Aughavas caused a little bit of controversy.
“I don’t think there is going to be any mad dash up there, to be honest,” said local woman Maureen Lynch.
“It would be far better if the pair of them came down the town. I think we’d all like to get up close to those muscles Brian got bruised for Ireland”.
Lynch later said she met O’Driscoll having a pre-wedding drink with friends in Carroll’s bar.
“I thanked him for taking bruises for us and gave his muscles a stroke,” she said smiling.
“I told him they should parade down the town after the wedding but he said it wasn’t in the plan unfortunately.”
The local fleadh in Mohill is expected to attract over 10,000 people over the course of the weekend. The fleadh was launched last night in Fitzpatricks pub. Bar woman Mary Kennedy said she expected some of the wedding guests to visit the town over the course of the weekend.
“The groom and his friends are welcome to do a bit of leppin’ around in here and I will certainly pour them a good pint of Guinness,” she said.
