International global sensations, The Celtic Tenors, return to the US for a series of performances during the month of October.
For the last 14 years, the three-man vocal group has enthralled audiences throughout Ireland, Europe and the United States and will bring their eclectic mix of musical genres to the Park Theatre, Cranston,RI on October 10.
The group which includes Matthew Gilsenan, James Nelson and Daryl Simpson have all been classically trained but each of the talented Irishmen bring to the band a variety of preferred musical styles which include Opera; traditional Irish music and Gospel. This variety of music alongside their blended harmonies has propelled The Celtic Tenors to the top of their game.
Cited by some as Classical Cross-over artists and by others as Celtic Cross- over artists, even the groups James Nelson admits, “ It is very hard to label us.”
The group’s success may lie in this very fact.
The trio who all come from Ireland, have transcended their classical roots to include more modern genres like Pop, Celtic, spiritual and even American country in their musical sets and albums. This ability to crossover so easily means there is something for everyone and this has proven to be a sure fire hit with musical lovers.
With ten albums behind them, the groups star continues to soar as they recently re-signed to the Universal Deca label with another four albums guaranteed.
“14 years on we have been resigned with Universal and we have just recorded our first album on it [Universal Deca label], and it will be released in February,” says Nelson.
“We are very excited,” admits the Sligo native.
It is pretty impressive for any band to still be going strong after so many years together, and when pressed on what he thought was the secret to their success; Nelson humbly says “You know we just really wanted to work.”
“We really enjoy what we do.”
And it seems music fans across the globe enjoy what they do too.
“Fans in Germany want to hear Irish drinking songs,” laughs the former Operatic singer.
“Americans are more like our Irish audiences and they want to hear a mix of Classical and Irish traditional songs.”
Whatever your musical tastes, it seems The Celtic Tenors have you covered.
