Kellie Harrington has secured a place in the semi-final of the 2024 Olympic Games after defeating Colombian boxer Angie Valdas Pana, guaranteeing her at least bronze.

The Irish boxer, who recently finished renovations on her dream home, made history as the first-ever female Irish athlete to win a medal in multiple Olympics- what a feat!

She's also only the fourth Irish athlete to boast this achievement, following in the footsteps of Pat O'Callaghan, Paul O'Donovan and Paddy Barnes.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport after her victory, Kellie admitted: "I don’t know yet [how the bronze medal feels], because I haven’t really had time to think about it."

The boxer revealed she'd received a message of support from her brother, and a gas text from her mum. We can't blame her, as we all know a playful jest from an Irish person is a term of endearment!

"My brother texted me the other day and said, 'If 14-year-old Kellie Harrington had thought she’d be here now... she probably never would have believed it",' Kellie told the broadcaster.

"I copied and sent the message to my mam... she said, 'No, you’re right, you were a little shit back then! Still a little shit now but you have two Olympic medals!"'

There's nothing quite like the support of an Irish mammy, eh Kellie?
