Gardaí have launched a murder probe after a woman’s body was found in Co Roscommon.
The body has been formally identified as Mirjana Pap, 58, who had been missing from Athlone since last weekend.
On Tuesday evening, gardaí said that they were following a definite line of enquiry.
A spokesperson also revealed that a postmortem had been conducted but the results would not be released for operational purposes.
On Dec 31, gardaí appealed for information on the movements of a car as they continue their investigation in the death of Ms Pap.
A missing persons report for Ms Pap, 58, was stood down following the discovery of a body on the Roscommon-Westmeath border on Monday afternoon (December 30). Ms Pap’s body was discovered on farmland in Roscommon.
On Tuesday evening, gardaí revealed that they were ‘particularly interested’ in the movements of a silver 08G registered Peugeot 207 on Saturday December 28 between 11am and 12 noon.
A spokesperson said: ‘The car is understood to have travelled from Beechville estate, Athlone onto the N6 motorway (westbound) from junction 11 to junction 13 before continuing on the R362 from Monksland to Bealnaulla.’
Motorists who travelled along these routes within this timeframe are asked to provide gardaí with dash-cam footage.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Athlone Garda Station on 090 649 8550, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
Earlier today, a house in Co Roscommon was searched and two cars were seized for examination by gardaí investigating the death of Ms Pap.
Ms Pap’s body was taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem examination by the deputy state pathologist.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry and an incident room has been set up at Athlone garda station.
A family liaison officer has also been assigned to provide support.
Gardaí said examinations are under way at the scene and at a residential property in Athlone by the Garda Technical Bureau, and two cars have also been seized for examination.
