Ray Ryan, a former hurler with Sarsfields and Cork, passed away unexpectedly today Tuesday, February 25. He was 43 years old.
Ryan was a part of the Sarsfields panel that won Cork's Senior Hurling Championship in 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014.
In 2009, he was called up to Cork's intercounty squad, where he served as captain in the National Hurling League.
Ryan later coached with Sarsfields and most recently was working with their minor hurlers, as well as the Glanmire footballers.
Outside of GAA, Ryan was a member of An Garda Síochána, stationed in Cobh.
A notice on RIP.ie says Ryan, of Crawford Woods, Glanmire, Cork, is the "dearly beloved husband of Aishling (née Foley)" and "adored dad of McKenna, Rory, and Elliot."
Ryan is survived by his parents Marian and Paddy and brothers Pat, Trevor, and Ken.
The notice says Ryan is deeply missed by his in-laws, work colleagues, teammates, the wider GAA community, and a large circle of friends.
Reposing will be at Barry Brothers Funeral Home in Glanmire on Thursday, February 27 from 5 pm to 6 pm.
A requiem Mass will be held on Friday, February 28 at 11 am at St. Joseph's Church in Springhill, which will be livestreamed.
A funeral will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Little Island.
