It really is a beautiful Irish girl’s name. Irish names are trending, not only with parents here in Ireland but also with ones who are not even Irish by heritage and live thousands of miles away from our shores. To be fair, it is easy to see why – this island really is home to some beautiful monikers.

Some of these traditional Irish names have been popular with parents for decades, others have not really been in use for a long time, but are now starting to see some action again.

This year, a gorgeously unique Irish girl’s name has been growing in popularity according to newly released data. The Irish Central Statistics Office recently released information on the most popular baby names in Ireland in 2023, where they outlined the names that are growing in popularity and the ones that are falling in popularity.

And among the Irish names for girls that more and more parents are choosing for their babies is a truly unique one.

 Unique and unusual meaning

The name for girls with the highest climb in 2023 compared to the year prior is Síofra.

Síofra, if you are not familiar with the name, is a stunning Irish moniker for girls with a rather unique and beautiful meaning.

According to Mom Junction, Síofra, pronounced shee-oh-fra, means "fairy" or "elf".

Back in 2022, Síofra was the 157th most popular name for girls registered in Ireland.

However, the name climbed an impressive 57 places to the number 100 spot in 2023.

And while that is impressive, it seems Síofra wasn’t the only stunning Irish name for girls that saw a big climb in the rankings.

For instance, the name Éala climbed 38 places from 128 to 85. Éala is pronounced ay-la and means "swan" or "noble". With its ties to wildlife, the Irish Star says it is one of the best Irish names inspired by nature and animals.

As well as Síofra and Éala, the other three names that saw a big increase in popularity in this country last year compared to 2022 are Lucia, Lottie, and Zara.

Parents in this country [Ireland] clearly still have a lot of love for our more traditional names. The most popular Irish name for boys in 2023, and the fourth most popular name overall, was Rían, a regal Irish name that means "little king".
