Three seems to have been one of the magic numbers last night at the Irish Dance Teachers Association of North America - Southern Region Irish Dancing Championships! Three ladies from Drake Irish Dance swept the solo competitions with Amanda Carpenter, Christina Deacy and Catie Foley all clinching the titles for Senior Ladies, Ladies under 20 and Ladies under 19. Catie Foley is the defending champion for the region, having also placed 4th at the North American Irish Dancing Championships in July.

Three young men also rocked the stage, winning championships for Senior Men, Men under 20 and Men under 18. Jason Hays and Alex Mowatt-Larssen, both from McTeggart, defended their 2010 regional titles and Colin Barkell from Maple earned the Senior Men title. To add to the excitement, Hays and Mowatt-Larssen were part of McTeggart's 15 & Over Choreography team which won for the second year in a row!
Among the toughest competitions of all the North American regions, every round is uncomfortably close with friendly rivals vying to keep or claim titles. The oldest of the competitors, most of the dancers in these competitions have been sharing the stage, the spotlight, the glory and the disappointment for ten years or more.
