Mevagh Ramblers Walking Club is organising a walking festival for the first time on 1st and 2nd June 2013 and everyone is welcome. The club is based in the parish of Mevagh in northwest Donegal, incorporating the seaside towns and villages of Carrigart, Downings, and Glen. Join us in this unspoilt historic beauty spot for a weekend of walks by day, and for culture, good food and traditional music by night.
There will be two walks on each day – one moderate, taking approximately three hours, and one strenuous, taking four to five hours. These hikes will explore different terrains including bog roads, heather-covered hills, beaches and lovely headlands overlooking the sea. Knowledgeable local guides will lead the way and fill you in on details regarding the flora and fauna, as well as the history of the area. For example, did you know that the local stone was quarried and used to build Lloyds Bank in London? We also hope to explore Lord Leitrim's old estate with its historic gardens.
By night, enjoy lively music sessions in our local pubs. We’re still in the planning stages, but we also hope to showcase the food for which our area is famous, including mussels, oysters and scallops from Mulroy Bay.
We look forward to seeing you in Donegal. Simply show up on the day of your chosen walk – or for both days. The more the merrier.
